The impact we can make through business is our WHY at Properties For Good.

With each successful property transaction, we make an impact, for good. That’s where the Global Business Initiative, B1G1, comes in together with other causes we support. It means we multiply the real differences we make.

Just as building a house requires a strong foundation, so does the start of a child’s life. One of those foundations is education. But effective education also requires meeting their basic needs for food and shelter.

One of our favourite New Zealand projects is through KidsCan, providing meals to school children in hardship.  Kids face increasing hurdles to achievement in life and we think that trying to learn on an empty stomach shouldn’t be one of them.

KidsCan do an amazing job of supporting children in low decile schools access the basics so that they can learn and develop.

According to The Child Poverty Monitor 2019, 254,000 kiwi kids live in poverty and 174,000 live with food insecurity. Unfortunately, those children are more likely to leave school without qualifications – and yet education is one of a child’s best tickets out of hardship.

Our aim is to progressively make an impact on a big problem so that over time more lives are enhanced.

As well as here in New Zealand, we are also able to make an impact around the world.

Consider water as an example. Most properties in the developed world typically feature plumbing, running water and waste water and we don’t give that a second thought. But consider estimates that:

  • Millions of people including children die every year from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.
  • Water scarcity affects more than 40 per cent of the global population and is projected to rise. Over 1.7 billion people are currently living in river basins where water needs exceed supply.
  • Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 80 per cent of households without access to water on premises.

The provision of a water wells in villages reduces women’s average daily water collection time, effectively reduces children mortality rate from water-borne diseases and allows girls to receive a proper education instead of spending their time collecting water.

As we said, the impact goes way beyond just drinking and washing!
